Emiliano Augusto Cavalcanti de Albuquerque e Melo, better known as Di Cavalcanti, was an important Brazilian painter,cartoonist and illustrator. Di Cavalcanti was born in Rio de Janeiro, on September 6th, in 1897. He died on October 26th, in 1976.
His artistic style has the influence of expressionism, cubism and the mexican art. His works have some objects, places and people typically Brazilian, for example, the samba and beaches.
In his works are common the paintings with socials moviments and brazilian people (festivals, workers, social protests, etc.). Di Cavalcanti showed the tropical sensuality of Brazilian women. He used the colors of Brazil in his works together with feelings.
His works are in museums in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro cities. Others are in auctions.
In the painting “Mulata” there is a black woman, she has a long hair with some flowers. She wears necklaces. She has in her hands a bird. She is between two windows. The windows are colorful, because they have flags grooming. In windows out there, there are trees and mountains...
